My Girly Gear's Plan for the Holidays

The kids are back in school, days are getting a little shorter, and the leaves on the trees are just starting to turn colors. All these things mean that Fall/Autumn is quickly on the way. As someone who sells the things we make, that means the holidays are coming, and like many of my fellow hand crafter I am working hard on not only my Halloween items, but Fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. So feeling the presser and not wanting to fall behind again like last season I have added several of these items already and I am in the process of making even more.

The Fall and Winter seasons mean so many different things to so many people it is no wonder that there are so many items made for celebrating these seasons. The best part of handmade items is that they all come from a special memory or from something they had or saw as a child. I have often said that I have never met a craft or art medium that I didn’t like so for me I always have a dozen projects that I am juggling and you can add another half dozen or more for every holiday. Most of my holiday projects get worked on during a month or two prior to the holiday they correspond with. Some people work all year long on their holiday projects but I tend to work better when I am looking forward or feeling inspired by the upcoming holiday. Unfortunately that means that between September to December I am working like a crazy person on all my Fall/Autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter and Christmas projects.

For the bulk of this year I have been working hard to fill my store with lots of handmade, one of a kind items. Now most of these items have been jewelry. Jewelry has been my primary passion in the last few years. There is so many kinds of materials you can use and work with and so many ways to use those materials. There are also so many style of jewelry so I have really been addicted to trying are kinds of jewelry and materials. With all the jewelry I have learned to make, the list of the new types and kinds of materials I want to work with just keeps getting longer. The two I am most interested in doing more work with is wire wrapping and polymer clay. So hopefully by next year you will be seeing many more handmade pendants out of these materials. Since I have quite a few jewelry items in my shop I plan to spend the rest of the year filling my store with lots of other types of items.

I have lots of new items coming soon to my shop. Many new items for the holidays like wreaths and ornaments and other seasonal/holiday décor. I will also be adding items for the home like wine charms, wash cloths, bookmarks, and home décor, including original acrylic and oil paintings. I also have many more girly items to get up in my shop as well. This means more hats, scarves and purses, and pretty things for your hair and things to get those organized, key chains, ID and badge lanyards, and eye glass/sun glass chains and much more. Like I said I never met an arts and craft project I didn’t like. This is what is so great about being an artist, the possibilities are endless and so are the kinds of things we get to make and making them is what we live to do. So check out the over 150 items already in my store today and keep checking in to see all the new items I will be adding as fast as I can get them photographed and listed. The photo with this post is a collectio0n of items already in my shop and can be found at both my Etsy and ArtFire shops. Click the links above to find these and more!!

Welcome to My Girly Gear and More... Blog

I have been looking for a better place to host my blog rather than just using the one available with my storefronts so I can do more than the limited amount of things that they allow. So after searching around I have settled here at Blogger and have decided to really commit to the kind of blog that I would enjoy reading. I have to admit that the only reason I started blogging was because I was told that it was key to bringing people to my store. So I wrote a few entries and then ended up getting really board and stopped. The only people who were more bored were probably the few people who read them.
So now I have some new ideas and plans to make this a place where you can not only see the new items I am showcasing in my store but I will also be showing you projects in the works and step by step photos of things I am currently working on. I'll teach you how to do some projects and give you new ideas for your own projects. I make all kinds of things and many of them in my shops but I have always been creative so I have all kinds of ideas to share.
I have focused on GIRL GEAR in my store, but like all of you I wear many hats as a Girl, but also a Wife, a Mom, a Sister, a daughter, an Aunt, an artist and much much more. I will share some of the tricks of the trade that have help me survive being a mother of four boys, a wife for 20 years, an Aunt to 20 and counting, a sister and sister in law and all the other things we as women have to find a way to be as well. So I will share ideas for parties for kids and adults, Holiday survival tips, How to encourage creativity and bring art into our children’s lives. I will showcase other artists, both locally and from around the world.  I will have contests and giveaways with my handmade items for prizes, just for fun. I am hoping to make this a blog that both women and artists will enjoy.
